Wedding roses are imported in large quantities
Young brides may not know, but the wedding roses she carries, or enjoys in floral arrangements, are probably not grown in her area. They are almost certainly imported from another state, unless she lives in one of the rose-growing slates, like Florida, or from even further afield in South America. The demand for roses by young people getting married is so great that thriving industries have grown up in areas where land is cheap and growing conditions are good for these traditional marriage day blooms. Transport would have made that difficult a few years ago. But affordable modern packaging, that sees roses and other flowers provided with individual protection and water supp;lies, will bring freshly cut roses to the retailer or markets in excellent condition, even if they have been moved thousands of miles over night.
